As we wrap up our summer series both on the blog and on episode 254 of the podcast, I’m thrilled to share some valuable insights into the world of in-person professional development. While I won’t cover every single opportunity out there — the list can go on and on! — I’ll provide you with some useful tips and ideas to explore. So, let’s dive right in and discover how you can enrich your teaching journey through in person professional development options for music educators.
F-Flat Symposium
Remember when I mentioned this one in this post? Well, it’s worth mentioning again! This fantastic symposium is put on by the creators of F Flat Books, and they offer both in-person and online options. If you choose the in-person option, you can find out more information by enrolling.
Oh, and guess what? I’ll be there too, flying to Philly to present and learn alongside other amazing music educators. It’s not just about PD; it’s a chance to make real-life connections with folks you might know from the online world.
Orff and Kodály Levels Courses
Ah, the ever-popular Orff and Kodály Levels courses! Now, while I’ll focus on these two for now, remember that there are levels courses for various music teaching philosophies out there as well. To find an Orff or Kodaly levels course near you, start by checking the Orff and Kodály websites. They often list courses offered in different locations.
Now, I know I’m mentioning this at the end of July, so some of the Levels courses might be done, but keep it in mind for next summer! Your local Orff or Kodály chapter can also be a goldmine for one-day sessions or other training opportunities.
State Music Education Conferences
Don’t forget to keep an eye on your state’s music education association. They regularly post updates on their website and social media about upcoming conferences. You’ll find conferences not just in your own state but also in neighboring states. Sometimes, it’s worth a little drive or a short flight for some incredible in person professional development opportunities for music educators.
Local Music Educators Associations
Look into your local city or county’s music educators association. They often host workshops, training sessions, and other events. It’s a great way to connect with educators in your area and take advantage of nearby opportunities.
Universities and Colleges
Check out any universities or colleges near you. They often host music education conferences and workshops that you might find valuable.
What has been a favorite in person professional development opportunity you’ve gotten to attend? Tell me about it in the comments below or share your thoughts on social media as you share this post. I’d love for you to share this post or any of the resources on my website with a friend or colleague who you know NEEDS to see it too.
