IT’S SO NICE TO MEET YOU!

Maybe you’re a music teacher and you feel overworked, exhausted, and at times underqualified.  You walk into work each day just hoping you’re making an impact, and a lot of times are just “fakin’ it ’til you make it.”

You’ve been to countless workshops and know all the methodology, yet are struggling with how to apply what you know to your teaching.

If you feel this way, then welcome.  You’re exactly where you need to be and I don’t think it’s an accident that you landed on my website.

You are amazing and what you do for your students matters so much.  It’s not a mistake that you’re in the exact school and teaching the students you teach.

I’ve helped thousands of music teachers gain forward momentum in their teaching and home life and can’t wait to help you to do the same.

In the process of getting to know each other, you’ll find encouragement, support, and mentorship every single week and I’m here to support you however I can.

“I wanted to reach out to you and tell you how much I love your website! I was sharing with another music teacher about how I wanted to create resources for other music teachers that are just starting out. Something, I wish I would have had 14 years ago. They recommended me to check out your site.

After reading your story, I found myself continuously saying ” me too” ” me too” In fact, I think you and I could probably chat for hours about what we have learned throughout the years. It’s just so nice to know there is someone out there like me.”

MY STORY

My love for music started at the age of 6, when I started taking piano lessons. I then went on to also learn the clarinet, and played both instruments on scholarship in several ensembles in college, and continue fostering my love of music today.

At my college graduation ceremony, I earned the Top Music Education Major award for my graduating class. After earning my Bachelors in Music Education from Oral Roberts University, I started my first teaching position in the middle of the school year at a low income elementary school. Having few resources and teaching materials, I was asked to restart the music program which had been non existent for 7 years.

Over the next several years, I created my own curriculum map and developed lesson plans that met my students where they were at. During my second year of teaching, I won the Teacher of the Year and Teacher of Today awards. This is where my passion for working with teachers began.

After meeting several music teachers who faced similar situations or have switched to teaching elementary music from a secondary or regular classroom position, I started my business, The Domestic Musician LLC.  Through my work, I’ve helped thousands of teachers in the HARMONY membership site, my Curriculum Design Roadmap and Elementary Music Teacher Blueprint courses, through 1-on-1 coaching, as well as providing weekly value on my blog and The Elementary Music Teacher podcast.

Along with the work I do in my own business, I also teach PK-4th grade music at The Hill School. Along with that, I’m the Professional Development Coordinator for LEARN at F-Flat Books and have worked with Teacher Vision, Virtual Virginia, Charanga Music, The International Music Education Summit, and more. After earning my Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Arkansas, I’m thrilled to use what I learned to enhance the ways I can work with teachers, students, and education stakeholders even further.

I believe your domestic life outside of school should be spent soaking up time with family and friends and your music teacher life while at school should not leave you feeling defeated, but should be a joyful, exciting, and rewarding experience.

GIVING BACK

The mission and driving force behind everything we do at The Domestic Musician is to give back to music teachers in need and to give back to nonprofits that we’re passionate about.  Jessica started her teaching career at a low income school with no resources at all.  Her heart is for teachers facing this same situation and as her business grows, she’s so excited to be able to give back through The Domestic Musician even more.

So far, we’ve been able to give to individual teachers needing resources for their classrooms or to fulfill their Amazon wish list orders.  We’ve also given to VH1 Save the Music Foundation, Decolonizing the Music Room, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, and have voted in the HARMONY membership for nonprofits to give back to twice a year.
